The mission of the Chicago Wrestling Club is to provide a safe learning environment for freestyle wrestlers 18 years of age and older.
Our motto is "Don't Break Your Toys" meaning don't hurt the people you are wrestling because then you don't have anyone to wrestle next week. So while we wrestle pretty hard, we try to gage how hard the person we are wrestling wants to and can go and make sure we control the moves we are doing.
We mainly wrestle freestyle because there are open freestyle tournaments around the country that
we travel to as a team and hold one or two a year ourselves.
We welcome everyone from beginner to expert wrestlers to come out and roll on the mats with us. We are happy to teach beginners and happy to be taught by the experts.
Practices are casual and consist of a little bit of instruction for new people from Coaches Jim or Josh with
input from the other wrestling, then a lot of open wrestling for the more experienced guys.
We usually wrestle in shorts and t-shirts and ask that you get a pair of clean wrestling shoes just for the mat.
We also ask that you get a USA Wrestling card everyone is covered by their insurance. This is secondary insurance that covers you while you are at practice or tournaments and covers the club and the gym. You can get all of the info from
http://www.themat.com
For the form in Illinois you need to fill out this Registration Form
and then mail into the people at IKWF (address on the bottom of the form)
Please join our meetup site (link below) to let us know who you are and when you will be coming to practice. It is a great site with a calandar so you can see what we are doing in this and upcoming weeks, and you can read reviews from the people who come to practice.
